Prague is a great place to come and study, whatever country you come from. It鈥檚 consistently voted one of the easiest cities in which to live, with the Mercer survey 2016 placing the city first in central and eastern Europe for quality of life. And a January 2017 poll conducted by InterNations places the Czech Republic as a whole seventh in the world across a range of criteria including safety, leisure, and personal happiness.
Meanwhile, the UK-based fDi Intelligence survey (also from 2016) places the city third in Europe for lifestyle. And in 2015, the US rankings site List25.com revealed that Prague was the 8th most popular destination in the world for young people to move to. That's well ahead of London, Amsterdam and Vienna.
A 2017 survey by relocation price index firm Movinga.de has revealed the true cost of making your move abroad as well as the cost of living, comparing 75 of the world鈥檚 major destinations.
How does Prague fare in the survey? Actually, pretty well. According to Movinga.de, for public transport, the city has the tenth cheapest prices in the world (20 euros a month, though you can pay as little as 12); for food and drink it represents 15th best value out of all 75 cities (300 euros a month); and for property rental the Golden City achieves 28th place in the survey (470 euros a month). That鈥檚 a lot better ranking than Cologne, Barcelona or Vienna.
In terms of monthly living costs including rental, Prague comes in at 20th in the list, although it must be said that renting outside the city centre or sharing accommodation would reduce costs substantially, and it should be possible for a student to live on 400 to 500 euros per month including rent quite comfortably.
